Pair of oak armchairs
Picked them up from my parents last week, and had always assumed they'd bought them in the 60s, but now wondering if they'd belonged to my grandparents which would make them pre-war.
Made of oak so I'm assuming they're British rather than Scandinavian. Same shape and action, with the rod and drop back, but there are some small differences in manufacture and shape of the side panels, which may mean they were made by different people &/or made at different times.
We lived in S Wales at the time, so maybe by a Welsh craftsman?

Came across some Arts & Crafts examples (c.1900) made by Shapland and Petter which retailed through Wylie and Lochead of Edinburgh and Liberty & Co London. They are much better quality than mine. I suspect a local Welsh 'bodger' took one look and thought he'd knock up a couple himself with some reclaimed parts, c. 1930s-40s, maybe.

They seem to have had later amateur repairs like I would be capable of but I suspect that they are early 20th century.

Ha ha, the later repairs were done by my dad. He was a true bodger.

It appears that the shape is copying William Morris chairs, from the Arts & Crafts movement -

Re: Pair of oak armchairs
A lot of amateur craftsmen and women copied A&C forms. The proviso being that they were handmade and honest (as opposed to overly embellished). Maybe this is a husband & wife effort?
