"First period" wares 1926-32. not all marked, but all with similar unglazed terracotta bases.
Similarities with the Poole and Honiton of that era.

I have a small vase base marked "84" isle of wight pottery and in the centre of the base is "ss" Samuel Saunders i think

Am i right and is this an early piece.

Samuel Saunders did a printed mark, and was earthenware. The glazes are almost invariably monotone, and the glazing on this piece sis completely different from the glazes they used pre-war. But as to who it is? Shrugs

Yes, typical "first period" ware 1926-32. I have a similar vase in the first picture.
