I found this firm on the Potteries Website. Can you confirm that this must date 1935-1937.  I thought it was candle wax, or similar, covering the backstamp, but it's some sort of spillage! Thank you. S. Hancock & Sons (Staffs). Corona Ware, "Lagoon Ware". 20140131

The company was originally Sampson Hancock and later Sons was added. However, for the last 2 years that they were in existance (1935 to 37) they were S. Hancock & Sons Ltd (Ltd added) and the pottery was renamed "Corona Pottery". So my source (Godden) agrees with the website that you looked at.
