6 inches across..heavy..with marked on back with dots 7<9.1

Egyptian - i would suspect. Lots of army servicemen brought them back after operations in the Middle East in WW2. My partner's grandfather brought several pieces like this back with him - plates, boxes, vases. All very well made by Egyptian craftsmen.

i personally would pay up to around £30-40 for something like this. But i guess it's all personal taste. The workmanship in many of these pieces if amazing.

here's a box we inherited from my partner's granddad. He apparently watched the craftsman making it in Cairo in the 1940s.

You'd probably get your money back. They're not rare, and it's traditional metalwork; they've been doing it a long time and passing the knowledge down father to son (apprenticed at a very young age), so you'd expect it to be good.brin mcardle wrote:£10 too much ??
