Just curious about this piece that came in an auction lot. Pretty little thing I'm sure you agree. Is it some kind of posy/flower holder ? I think the mark says 'limited' and J & S monogram mark ?? Any clues ?

There is a fair bit missing but I think it is the 1930s mark for John Shaw & Sons (Longton) Ltd. They started in 1931 and continued to produce pottery until 1963*. It probably says Burlington Art Pottery, as "Burlington" was their trade name.

* so someone must have liked what they made!

I think it is probably what was known in the trade as a "frog". A thing for arranging flowers in that was placed in the centre of a bowl.
