Re: Is this a Dan Arbeid Vase?
I feel confident saying that it is not by Danlami and I haven't seen anything in reality or in books by Dan Arbeid that looks like this but I feel less certain saying that it isn't by him.
Can we see all of the base please?

Re: Is this a Dan Arbeid Vase?
Doesn't look like the same letter-style as the example in studiopottery.com

Doesn't appear to be Danlami Aliyu's mark. The example I've found has an A inside the D

Re: Is this a Dan Arbeid Vase?
You are correct Naomi but I am not convinced that the bottle vase on that website is by Dan Arbeid.
It looks very similar in glaze to a number of thrown pieces that have been put up for sale on ebay in recent months, as being by Dan Arbeid. These and the vase you mention are thrown (something he rarely did by his own admission) and are so unlike anything that I have seen by him that I wouldn't be comfortable in saying that they were his work. That doesn't mean that they are not his but I wouldn't buy them let alone attempt to sell them as Dan Arbeid's work without some real evidence. To date I have not seen that evidence.

Re: Is this a Dan Arbeid Vase?
Back to your vase RVsaid. Is the colour of the stoneware grey, as in your 2nd picture or with the browner tinge as in your first posts?

Which one? There are a few more for Danlami Aliyu. All are A inside D

Re: Is this a Dan Arbeid Vase?
Danlami's mark is as Naomi states and he wouldn't have considered making a vase such as this.
He learnt to pot at Abuja under Michael OBrien, came to Wenford Bridge under Cardew and then went to Farnham where he was taught by Henry Hammond and Paul Barron. His work was always clearly that of a follower of Cardew.

Oxford Ceramics has an example of Dan Arbeid's mark in their archive.

Re: Is this a Dan Arbeid Vase?
Is it the right sort of clay? The examples I've found are a heavily grogged red clay. This looks grey.

Re: Is this a Dan Arbeid Vase?
........so Oxford Ceramics say, Naomi, but likewise I have no evidence that the cylinder was made by him. Again it looks unlike any of the work by him that has a positive identification that I've seen.
