They will have been made in the Rakusaigama kiln in Shigaraki, which has been passed down through the family. The current potter in charge is Takahashi Rakusai IV (I think he's still around, if not, then V) but this is the kiln mark and the pieces are likely to have been made by different potters.

Have you ever tried explaining yunomis to a Non-Potty person?
But it hasn't got a handle....Only kids use tumblers.....Japan? Leach? What the heck has that got to do with it?......why are they all so thick?....What is that weird stuff covering it....HOW MUCH did you pay for IT?????
Truly, they do end up thinking that you are really Potty Nuts! Laughter

I remember when yunomis started to become of interest in the UK. Back then British potters made mugs with handles and even well known potters could only charge a few pounds for them. Of course, they embraced the idea of making and selling yunomis, as they didn't have to mess around making and fixing on handles and could charge significantly more for the finished article. Afterwards when teabowls became of interest, even better, as cereal bowls, with slight changes, sold for even more.

Teabowls are not just mugs with no handle. That’s like saying a small vessel by Robin Welch is just a mug with no handle. I’ve known the occasional potter with a lot of experience of making table wares try to make a yunomi from scratch by leaving off the handle and it’s just a beaker. I would challenge anyone to fit a handle on one of Elena Renker’s chawans and make it into a mug.
