Oriental/Asian Wooden and Weaved Decorative Lidded Pot?
I'm trying to find information about this old lidded wooden pot. The elephants are all hand painted and the weaving is bamboo. The lid appears to have been made out of some other material, but what, I'm not too sure of. The internal part of the lid is weaved. The covering that forms the lid shape I think, maybe Paper mache'. Can you help us with this on, as I have not a clue. Thanks

My guess would be from somewhere where they have both elephants and bamboo. eg, Thailand.
The covering might be a thin hide/skin, rather than paper, but without feeling it I couldn't be sure.

Oriental does come to mind NaomiM. I think this is soley because of the boxed base. Having inspected the pot again, I have noticed, that is, under magnification, markings that are not the same as the patterned cross-hatch to the base area. I will have to see if I can get some good pictures. I would also like you to note, that the covering maybe skin after all. The texture is soft, and does feel like skin.

If you google VINTAGE THAILAND WOVEN BAMBOO RICE BASKET MADE BY THAI LONG NECK WOMEN TRIBE you'll see something similar listed on ebay.

Oh! thanks NaoimiM, It certainly bares similarities. The one on google, looks very modern to me, that is, compared to mine. So they are rice baskets?
