I'd much appreciate some assistance with identifying the potter who crafted this jug. It's 18.5cms high and has 2 distinct brown glazes- the paler one being used to create swirling leaf and dot decoration. The unglazed foot has an impressed mark of 2 conjoined capital letters- a "P" above an "M" I think. I assume it's a relatively modern English pot but I've been unable to deduce much more. Many thanks.

I am not sure if the mark looks quite right but it could be David Melville, as he has made things with this type of glaze and decoration in the past. His current work is different.

Might be worth emailing him - you can google his web site.

David Melville very kindly took the time to email me and let me know it's not his. But that he thinks it's "very nice" and possibly by The Mead Pottery. More research to be done

I've given up trying to identify it- put it away in a cabinet and will use it for pimms later in the summer- seems the right thing to do- thanks for all your suggestions Happy

I tend not to use the expensive or delicate pots but the stoneware pots and cheaper studioware are used every day

I've got a few domestic "seconds" and a couple of other bits that were very cheap, that we use occasionally. But cups and plates dont last very long here... so not worth the risk in my opinion Shock

I tend to use studio pottery stuff that's still in production so replaceable or that was made in quantity. Since the demise of Smudge the pot-hating cat my breakage rate has decreased considerably!

I think this is by Australian potter Phillip McConnell. He's the son of Carl McConnell (1926-2003).
