Seit vergangener Woche wird im Stadt.Schau.Fenster in der Rathausstraße 22 in Höhr-Grenzhausen im Rahmen der Wechselausstellung "Künsterlische Gestalter in unserer Stadt - Eine Retrospektive" die erste deutsche Töpfermeisterin Elfriede Balzar-Kopp vorgestellt.

Die 1904 in Bendorf am Rhein geborene Elfriede Kopp studierte in den Jahren 1924 bis 1927 an der staatlichen Ingenieur- und Werkschule für Keramik und der staatlichen Majolika-Manufaktur in Karlsruhe.
Bereits mit 23 Jahren gründete Elfriede Balzar-Kopp ihre eigene Werkstatt in Höhr-Grenzhausen. Sie fertigte fortan handwerklich Krüge, Kannen, Teller und Gefäße, die unabhängig von der Industrieware einen eigenen Stil bzw. eine eigene Technik aufwiesen. So entdeckte Elfriede Balzar-Kopp die Redtechnik in Form von schwungvollen Ritzzeichnungen in den Gefäßwandungen neu.

Während ihrer Schaffensphase blieb Elfriede Balzar-Kopp ihrer Red- und altechnik stets treu, ihr Dekorationsstil hingegen wandelte sich ständig und passte sich dem Geschmack des jeweiligen Jahrzehnts an.

Für das Stadt.Schau.Fenster in der Rathausstraße 22 stellte uns die Tochter von Elfriede Balzar-Kopp, Frau Marianne Popp, freundlicherweise die Ausstellungsgegenstände zur Verfügung und unterstütze auch die Werkstatt Gestaltung sowie das Quartiersmanagement Höhr bei der Schaufenstergestaltung.

Weitere Exponate der Künstlerin Elfriede Balzar-Kopp zeigt das Keramikmuseum Westerwald, Lindenstraße 13 in Höhr-Grenzhausen.

Been looking at this on and off  for ages over the last couple of months just cant decide what it says so interested in your thoughts on what it says, or if someone recognises it

Looks German to me too. Westerwald, Kopp, etc. The deer is a common motif.

Similar one on ebay (completed listing) listed as Large Stoneware Salt-glazed, birds decorated Vase, Balzar-Kopp, Germany ca. 1960, numbered on base 103/30. Seems the number on the bottom of yours is 103/?

these Westerwald pieces are extremely difficult to id unless they are marked by a recognised maker so you're probably better off with a Frigidaire

I have acquired this young lady & have attempted to find out about her. The nearest I can find is Elfriede Balzar- Kopp.  Would anyone know if this is correct or tell me otherwise. Thank you for any replies.
