Maze Hill Pottery beaker via the Oxford Ceramics Fair

A soda glazed teapot.

This is an intetresting 27 cms dish with the Kigbeare,Okehampton mark on it,

And another one with Kigbeare mark on it. 30 cms and quite a strking Blue

Very nice studio salt glazed stoneware mug in the manner of Leach potters... Looks to be wood fired. Impressed mark 'nh' or 'mh' ? Thought it might be Nic Harrison? Anyone know? Thanks

I thought that I read it alongside the photo of mugs above... But I guess it could have been thrown by Lisa Hammond? What do you think? Cheers

In most cases these days, as I understand it, Florian and the other apprentices throw the standard ware. Lisa Hammond adds her personal mark if she’s made it.

Its interesting why potters change their mark. Some stay the same throughout their career, some change their mark quite frequently. Whatever the reason, it does make it more difficult to identify their work. I am the only one to find that difficult to read? Or is it just the photo?

It is something that many Japanese potters do and that is where Lisa will have gotten the idea from I would suggest. It isn't a signature as such but a mark - like people in the past where able to sign with a cross when they couldn't write

or maybe a celebrity doing a swiggle when asked for an autograph.

In this case it's 3 short lines one way with a longer line through the middle of them roughly at right angles.

Nothing wrong with the old marks IMO. Seems a bit daft to me. Everyone knows what your marks are so lets change it completely, why?>

I think because it is a different type of work but it might be to annoy people that are fixated on marks.

I suspect it's to give the pots an added chache; her personal mark adds an extra 0 to the £s

Getting back to the subjest. Lisa Hammond in Contemporary Ceramics in August 2021. More her everyday range perhaps.
