Chinese Carved Wooden Book Stand
I've been through all the book stands that I can find online. This particular book stand is totally different to the ones I've seen. Another beautiful well designed item that has no specific markings that I can recognise. The book stand can be collasped flat by simply closing the two outer supports inwards. Your help is needed.

Re: Chinese Carved Wooden Book Stand
Chinese, possibly early 20th Century, although the photos are a bit too fuzzy to be certain (it depends on the quality of the carving. I'm assuming this is good quality carving which would point to an early date, although it's fairly shallowly carved so I would place it in the 20th century, rather than late Victorian). The decoration is a classic Chinese dragon, chasing the pearl of wisdom though the clouds. The wood looks like mahogany.
However, it might be a relatively modern copy made in Malaysia.

Re: Chinese Carved Wooden Book Stand
Yes, the pictures are very poor. Here are some improved pictures. The book stand has been in the family four over 40 years, but have no idea of the actual age. You could be right, mid 20th Century.
It has always been stored away in a cupboard along with other items that I have managed to get my hands on. When you say a modern copy. Have you seen this type of Book stand? I've spent a lot of time yesterday trying to find one with similar types of joints. There are so many designs but I've not seen one like this yet. Hopefully someone will recognise this.
