Günther Stüdemann, fish and ST mark
günther stüdemann (was trained at the kunstgewerbeschule, in hamburg as a painter from 1911 and exhibited his painting at the “freie sezession berlin“ & at the „sezession in munich“.
in the 1920s during a study trip to italy he first came in touch with ceramics and opened in vietri sul mare his first workshop "ceramica fontana limite" short after.
the pottery-museum in faenza bought quite an ammount of his pottery while he was working in vietri sul mare (studemann's "il periodo tedesco"/the german period).
he worked together with artists like irene kowaliska, richard dölker, margarete tewalt, liesel oppeland several others and the famous i.c.s.,industria ceramica salernitana, was founded in 1927 in collaboration with stuedemanns. i.c.s. employed all the famous artists of the tedesco period.
the list includes studemann, kowalski, hannasch, dolker, cassetta, gambone, procida, giovannino and others.
you can find studemann's work in museums in faenza, munich, nurnberg, berlin, hamburg, leipzig, coburg, kulmbach and certainly in thurnau in the pottery museum which wouldn't be without him after returned to germany in 1928 he worked at the ofenfabrik velten ag for a short period of time. in between 1934-1936 he worked at his workshop "artesano" near barcelona. and finally in 1939 he opened his "keramische werkstatt günther stüdemann" in thurnau, germany
