Re: Wilfred Goodman, Totnes, Slipware
She did make earthenware around 1950 but I haven't seen anything with this type of decoration.
However, I can't really make out the mark. Is it a W with a P down the centre for Winchcombe Pottery or, if not, can you describe it?

Re: Wilfred Goodman, Totnes, Slipware
I am certain that there is no letter in the centre and my first impression was that it may be a clover leaf style shape, although not complete.Similar to de Trey. I have copied the pottery.com link for de Trey and the closest it looks like is the the mark for Marianne de Trey jug (mark) although the glaze on my jug does not seem to be her style.

I find it easy to be drawn into an image that i cannot diversify from and therefore I am looking for your expertise.
Sorry if I am appearing so vague.

Re: Wilfred Goodman, Totnes, Slipware
Well it's not Marianne de Trey's mark and it's not Winchcombe's WP mark, but I don't know who's mark it is. (I have a feeling it could be an ex Winchcombe Potter)
I'll send a link containing the mark to SP, as with a clearer example of this mark, he may have a better idea of the potter.

.... or not.
I didn't think that the glaze thickness was right for Winchcombe but I don't recall ever seeing the mark before.
I'll have a ponder!

Is that a fish at the bottom half of the mark?

Could IT Be A Fleur De Lys Device Mark?

Re: Wilfred Goodman, Totnes, Slipware
The style of the jug reminds me of Peter Holdsworth, Ramsbury Pottery, although that doesn't fit with the mark.

Re: Wilfred Goodman, Totnes, Slipware
Could it be Barrington Pottery? I don't know their mark, but the style of decoration on this jug is very similar to their pieces.

Small jug Winchcombe? - possibly Matt Grimmitt
I thought this would be Winchcombe when I got it, but not so sure now.
The mark is glazed over so I have drawn it as best I can.

Re: Wilfred Goodman, Totnes, Slipware
Thanks Naomi, not a name I knew, the g looks right anyway, maybe a different seal
used just for the very small items.

Re: Wilfred Goodman, Totnes, Slipware
Not sure what Matt's mark looked like but he now works at Winchcombe and is the great great grandson of Elijah Comfort, who helped Cardew in the early days of the Winchcombe Pottery.
It could be his as he made things before joining the pottery at Winchcombe, selling some on Ebay, so it might be worth trying to email him.

It's the same maker as your jug, but I don't think either are Matt Grimmitt.
Pretty sure this mark is in "the book" and that I've ID'd a pot before with this mark, using it. But I can't remember the potter or where in the book it was...
Though I may be totally wrong!

The same potter, but doesn't appear to be Matt Grimmit's mark
