Danlami Aliyu
Hi
Well it would certainly be exciting if it were. A stoneware jug with thick walls, engraved decoration and a dark brown glaze.
Any thoughts team?

Re: Danlami Aliyu
I haven't seen anything where he has used wax resist to decorate before but the shape, the way the handle has been pulled and the mark are all fine for Danlami, who died in May this year.

Re: Danlami Aliyu
Looks like sgraffito decoration, rather than wax resist. There's a dish in the V&A with similar sgraffito work - see google images

Looks like wax resist to me and nothing like the incised decoration on the dish in the V&A, which is more typical of Danlami's work.

3rd Opinion:
I think the decoration looks carved

I think it's the first time we've disagreed
In my opinion the decoration is too deep to be from wax resist.
Also when looking at the unglazed vertical lines, you cannot see the throwing lines, that can be seen under the glazed parts.

Re: Danlami Aliyu
The images above seem to have disappeared so here is a large Danlami Aliyu jug (35.5 cm / 14 inches tall) that I sold recently.

Hi
Is it possible that Danlami Aliyu didn't always sign his work?
Or would this just be a piece by someone at the pottery he set up? Obviously made for Voluntary Services Overseas in Nigeria
I bought this with a hyacinth bulb in it!!! Unfortunately lots of little flea bites in rim glaze.

Danlami Aliyu, Al-Habib Pottery, Minna, Nigeria
Two charity shop finds today, a big 4-pint jug and a sort of decanter with spout and stopper, both from Danlami Aliyu's Al-Habib Pottery in Minna, Nigeria. Both are clearly marked with the pottery name, and the jug has impressed initials R.I.
So presumably not by Danlami himself, but very competently potted.

Re: Danlami Aliyu
Danlami set up the pottery with the help of Michael OBrien on the same lines as the Abuja Pottery i.e. with several potters working there.
The decoration looks similar to some that I have seen on Danlami pots and so the potter, who I do not know, was probably taught brushwork by Danlami.
