Ewenny Potteries (Wales)

Bought several items today including this Ewenny Pottery Jug, it is 4in tall.  I was wandering is it possible to date pottery like this or is it just a matter of trawling through the design catalogues and finding out the years a particular designer worked at the factory.

At the start of the C19th a man called Evan Jenkins married Mary daughter of John Morgan and thus started the Jenkins Dynasty.The family at this time they would have been making pots for the kitchen, agricultural use, flowerpots and commissions like puzzle jugs and wassail bowls. The industrial revolution rolled on and Ewenny became a hub of small potteries, there were twelve in the village and three in the surrounding area starting up and closing down due to the decline in demand due to tin ware and cheap mass-produced china

Horace Elliot was an extraordinary man by all accounts , a london art entrepreneur he had dealings with Brannam & Denby and visited the ewenny pottery annualy from 180-1913 , his pots can be very valuable .

Nice Little Jug...do we think its modern ?

Looking at the glaze colour, the clay body colour and the shape I would suggest 1920s/30s. I would be surprised if it was later than that.

Particularly like the green glaze and waisted form on this one. Comparatively recent, I imagine. One of a pair.

"Vale" was the name given to the former Claypits Pottery at Ewenny following its takeover by Reg Southcliffe of the Creigiau Pottery in 1962. This straight-sided bowl seems to use the same kind of greyish glaze employed - on rather different shapes - at Creigiau. Blue interior. Incised mark to base "Vale Ewenny Wales".

I dont know much about the Ewenny Following... But i have this antique Jardiniere made by Edwin Jenkins circa 1900 (corroborated by Caitlyn Jenkins at Ewenny) it was with some other things that i was interested in to be honest -  is it a lucky find or not?

i was thinking of just sticking it outside in the garden shed - but might reconsider with what you say any good web sight links to see a comparable price guide i've no idea at all with ewenny and nothing for this Edwin Jenkins (i didnt want to sound a bit mercenary by asking Caitlyn she was far too nice and very proud of her inherited legacy) ...

Very lucky. Personally I’d sell it. I don’t think it would survive outdoors; the glaze will probably flake off

Assume from about the same period, going by the writing wonder if it's the same potter?

Comparing the writing if you look at the n's in Ewenny in both examples the end line of the n slopes inwards which i'm guessing is not usual to people's handwriting so i'd say probably the same chap. + the e's have a triangular top rather than a circle which again is quite suggestive
