I hope I don't overload this forum, I have so many interesting pieces that I have always wondered about. Please let me know if I become a pain! As I have said before I mostly collect older Asian pottery and porcelain but I can pass up a beautiful glaze or interesting look. This rectangular plate reminds me of Agano or Utsutsugawa potteries.

It's not a style of pottery that I'm familiar with could well be from the Japanese regions you suggest. To be honest the mark looks more familiar than the glazing techique but I can't place it at the moment.

It might have been Yo's mark that I was thinking of but the glaze, style and clay used on this dish don't appear to be anything like any of Yo's work I've seen.

The owner is based in the U.S. Unlikely to be a UK potter, let alone Yo Thom.

He did add a Lisa Hammond teabowl to the teabowl thread?

However, the clay looks decidedly Japanese.

Hi guys, thanks so much for the lively debate! I think I can clear this up a little. This piece was bought from a charity shop here in the East US (Boston) together with the plates and oribe serving dish. I assume they are from the same collection, probably US or Japanese studio pottery. Although I live in the US now I am British and the Lisa Hammond chawan was something I brought here with me.

Thanks again,
Alex
