Small German wine jug & beaker by Gerz, any idea of date ?

Post by heygarth54 on Fri Oct 15, 2010 4:46 pm

I bought this small wine jug and beaker today and was hoping some may be able to date it for me, also can anyone translate the slogan on the front of the jug. The jug is 5in tall with the Gerz trademark on the base, it also has the pattern number which I think is 3872. The matching beaker is 3in tall with the same design and trademark but no pattern number. Also is Gerz a good manufacturer ? Thanks.

it means when the wine goes round everyone is happy

it's Westerwald and the maker is fair but produced cheap stuff too

I would say it was made in the last 50 years

S.P.Gerz, range 3000 - 3005, shape 3003 traceable 1967 and 1968,
mis-attributed to Jopeko i think.

Have a look to bowl 3006, the glaze looks similiar to
decor Capri by S.P.G 1967 but I read it was in a Jopeko brochure or something , well ... (I haven´t seen the document and i have no proof to the contrary)

Simon Peter Gerz I at Höhr Westerwald was a famous stein maker,
designs by Albin Müller and Peter Behrens, cf. websites of stein collectors;
The 1931 catalog shows steins only, stylistically ranging from Historicism to Art Nouveau
and Art Deco.

A small production line of high fire vases etc. with red clay, called Klinkro in the late 1930s.

Post 1945 S.P.Gerz produced 10 million (!) steins until 1968.

The production of decorative ceramics is known (stickers), but the
extent of this part of production seems to be underestimated.
Research is going on, "bit by bit".

quote / "large black and green at back, Schlossberg, 3003, white clay" / unquote
Thanks, BigEd ! Do you see any question marks ? I don´t see any either.
"Too many guesses to be credible" Well said.

--- S.P.G, 1968, glaze came in 3 colours, blue, yellow and --- green.
