Just got this early earthenware piece from Paul Rice's recent show of Michael Leach's work. Gorgeous glazes.

Nice clear Yelland mark

Welcome to the Forum, Joanna. It would be good to see an image of the Yelland jug as well as the mark.

When Michael first went to Yelland (1956) he used red earthenware like his brother David did over in Bovey but I don't know when he changed over to stoneware.

My guess would be around 1961 like his brother.

Regarding, Clive Bowen, he trained with Michael at Yelland from 1966 to 69 before setting up at Shebbear, where he still remains.

Other potters of note, who trained at Yelland, are his son Philip, his daugher in law, Frannie, Harry Juniper from 1956 to 1961 and my friend, Keiko Hasegawa.
