1970s abstract roller blind by Sander-Shade

Post by TinTrunk on Mon Nov 29, 2010 1:05 pm

A huge print roller blind by Sander-Shade (no designer credit unfortunately - looks a bit Barbara Brown?) Its 43 inches wide and I'm not sure how long - this is about two thirds of it:

I initially thought it might be something to do with Sandersons, but Sander-Shade is still going, now merged with Blind Fashion. Haven't dug up any company history, but it looks early 70s to me.

Here's the label, just for reference:

Yep, 1970s production - absolutely LOVE it - bears similarities to some of Verner Panton's work...

Thanks Pip! Yes, it is a bit Pantonish (?!)

We're having building work done soon on our house, and I'm so tempted to ask the architect to make sure one of the windows will fit it! Alternatively, it would make a great wall hanging.

I'd be tempted to go the wallhanging route with it too...

That would save it from fading as well. Hmm.

Wall hanging it is!

I saw this fabric print on a website recently and thought it was great, bet it looks wonderful as a blind or wall hanging! Apparently, it's a design called 'Cascade' created by Evelyn Redgrave in 1972 for Heal's. Here's the link to where I saw it...

Oh joy! That's fantastic medusa21 thank you!

I must get busy and snap some more fabrics, but we're suffering badly from light deprivation here in Manchester right now . . .

Pleasure... I notice the colours are a little different to yours so it must have been produced in a few different colourways. Here's another colour version I came across:

Re light deprivation - know what you mean....rather like that here in Leeds too!

Hi Medusa - firstly well done on identifying the fabric - that's brilliant.

Secondly, I'm sorry but I've had to remove your second link in line with our board policy on commercialism. It's explained in full on the forum however if you click the link below it should help explain to you why your first link was allowed but your second one wasn't. Our policy on copyright was arrived at with the help of our membership who were adamant they wanted this forum to remain largely free from commercialism (there are a few exceptions however which are clearly set out).

Hi Pip

Sorry about that, I didn't think about the commercial aspect at the time, just saw the different colourway and wanted to show it - I'll take more care next time! Thanks for the clarification link.

Is it ok to mention a book I might possess that features photos of a fabric someone is asking for an ID on? I think I've done that elsewhere already and it was just to give weight to my identification. Is that ok or is it bordering on commercialism too? In which case I'll avoid that in future too!
