Antonio Prieto

Attached is a picture of a tall bottle form by Antonio Prieto. It is 14 1/2 inches tall, stoneware, and dip-glazed with overlapping ovals of three different colors. Many of his pieces were decorated with lively figural abstracts. Prieto is a well known figure in American Modernist ceramics. He taught ceramics for several years at Mills College in central California (one of his more notable students was Robert Arneson). He died in the 1960's. His pieces are now highly sought by collectors of Mid-Century Modernist pottery and they often bring prices of $2500-$4000 at auction.

Gorgeous vase!
I'm a big fan of mid century modernist vases and if I ran into such a vase at an estate sale or flea market I would probably pepper spray others around me just to get it! LOL
