White on green overlay (Another -not Carnaby but what? pieces)

Post by David Qwerty on Mon Aug 23, 2010 1:55 pm

I bought this with a lovely black piece of Carlo Moretti satinato. Both overlay but so very different , this is heavier but really well finished with a beautifully polished base. Feels good quality. The green outer layer is much thicker than the inside white (again , unlike the Moretti)
It is roughly 12cm wide at the base.
Does anyone recognise it?

No idea really, but it looks as though it may be Scandinavian rather than Italian perhaps? That might be because I have an unmarked Orrefors cased glass candleholder that looks a similar olivey green with the white casing, so perhaps that is influencing me?
I like your vase - very nice.

Thanks Flying Free,
I agree, possibly Scandinavian or German.

Danish can be quite safely taken off the Scandinavian list - the base finish doesn't gel with anything from the Kastrup/Holmegaard factories.

I'm wondering if it might not have originally had a wooden lid? The shape looks more like swanky 'art glass' kitchenware than a vase.

See this similar-ish large cheese jar from Michael Bang's 'Palet' series:
