Can anyone help identify this? Pottery horse/donkey, probably Dutch

Post by wantabanana on Sun Dec 06, 2009 11:44 pm

Hi all,

My grandmother purchased this little ceramic/pottery donkey/horse in Holland (probably in Amsterdam in the early 1930s). It's recently been passed on to me, and I'd like to know more about it. Can anyone help me identify the make? It has a marking which looks like "GK" with the letters either side of a plant in a pot.

Many thanks!

Its Austrian made by Gmundner Keramik. Google it, Gmundner are still producing today so there is quite a bit of info about.

Given the proportions between head and body, I would definitely go for the donkey.

Cheers guys, this is good progress in identifying the item! Now I just need to find somewhere that has information on Gmundner Keramik items that aren't plates/vases or Putti!

Let me know if you have any suggestions for good resources for Gmundner Keramik animal items...would be most appreciated.

Many thanks,

Paul
