My 2 "Cheviot" ware vases 17" high,
Designed by Glyn College, mid-1950s

CH506 - White.
(1950s price was £3 15/- each.)

CH502 - Green with white decoration.
(1950s price was £4 10/- each.)

The green one is not marked, as there are some
glaze flaws, so was probably graded as a second.

Denby "Tube-lined ware" 1920s. Rarely marked, bases
are glazed over, unlike most Denby.
Sometimes seen for sale as Moorcroft, even though the body
(and weight) is obviously stoneware!

DENBY ANIMALS - SIZES AND GLAZE COLOURS.

I compiled this list years ago, using the info in the Denby books, and measuring
actual examples in various collections. It's not entirely complete as eg. there
was no complete set of geese to examine, and other examples have probably
been discovered since, but here it is anyway.

Larger printable sheets can be downloaded here- (940Kb Zip file).

A wonderful piece of information, DD, that must have taken you many hours to compile. Thank you for sharing it.

Bourne Denby pepper and mustard pot in (correct me if I'm wrong) the  Cloisonn pattern, representing amoeba or bacteria, designed by Glyn Colledge in 1956 and issued from 1957.

Yes Cloisonne, should be 3 pieces on a boomerang base, look out for the other bits.

Will do, Denby. Although if anyone has an incomplete cruet set and needs a piece to complete it, let me know.

A funny thing picked up today. Looks like it may have been a giftware addition to the
"Marguerita" range of tableware (1950s), as there are elements of it, but the
underside is in the 1970s "Rochester" glaze.

Flat bottomed vase - Bourne Denby

Post by NaomiM on February 9th 2015, 1:07 am

Cylindrical vase with flat base. I don't know if this is modern or vintage. To my eye it seems to have a similar clay and glaze colour to early Denby but it's unmarked.

Yes it looks right Naomi. They are usually marked with mark 14, "Bourne Denby England"
c 1905-1920.
Not uncommon, they usually seem to turn up in pink, purple or gun-metal black.
I'll see if I can dig one out to compare.

I have a large pink vase similar to yours, but just can't lay my hands on it ATM.
Meanwhile here are some other pieces from that era.

An unusual 8 x 6 small tray picked up today. "Poplar trees along a road"?
No signature, but "Glynware/Cheviot" elements, maybe just a one off.

Another odd bit picked up today. A Deco vase 8.5 in high, never seen this style before.
With those wavy handles and "GRETNA" green, I would attribute it to Alice Teichtner, 1930s,
unmarked.

An unusual 5 inch jug, unmarked, so probably a trial. Definitely some Glyn influence,
so probably 1950s.

Obviously from the same series as Lindylou's dishes shown on this page, which I hadn't noticed.

Much of the "New Glynware" range was produced at the Langley Mill pottery using white clay, but these are Denby stoneware.

Only an x impressed to the base.

Yes Zip it is Denby. They did these bulb bowls in different sizes, and in a streaky
blue also. Never marked, probably made for florists or wholesalers Pre-war.
