MADE IN ENGLAND - guessing Shelley, but do you know otherwise?
hi all,
bought this fab little pot today - and something about it made my little ceramics heart leap with joy when i spotted it - but i don't know who made it. Something about it said Shelley, or perhaps Crown Ducal? It's marked as MADE IN ENGLAND, with a number 40 and a cross, all impressed. It has the obvious influences of Clarice Cliff and is typical late 20s / 1930s.
can anyone id? thanks

I'm pretty sure you are correct although I don't collect Shelley myself

It looks similar to shelley harmony ware 1932-40, but with the lack of a Shelley mark I don't know , also made in england suggests 1930's .

Nice vase, but I'm pretty sure this is someone copying Shelley.
The base doesn't look to be of Shelley quality and I believe Shelley always used stamps rather than impressed marks.

Looks like shelley but could also be wadeheath or empireware.

cheers Nik. now that you mention it, it does remind me of both wadeheath and empireware pieces i've seen. You obviously have a good eye for this!
