an eBayer's wishful thinking....
This was posted by Andy on the GMB and it's just so ridiculous I thought I should share it with you lot here. Not only is it NOT Lalique it's the most vile piece of cheap modern Chinese crap. It was probably made last week - I've seen these ugly things in charity shops - they're light as a feather and the most revolting pieces of 'glass' I've seen in a very long time.
The seller's description can only at best be described as wishful thinking - at worst a total and utter fabrication. It's not old, it's not quality and it's definitely NOT Lalique!

LOL it's so 'rare' and 'valuable' he's probably sending it Special Delivery!
He's right at the beginning of his eBay career I see, with 2 sales under his belt - he's going to have a baptism of fire with that one - I wonder how many indignant and outraged emails he's received from glass lovers so far?

I really like the bit in his description about the estimated height being roughly 8 inches - why not just bloody measure the thing - or is that me being anal?
Also, his grandma told him some wicked porkies ... naughty nana.

Re: an eBayer's wishful thinking....
Apparently these vases could have first been made in the 1970s (but I suspect theyre still being made today with the sheer quantity I see at boot sales and charity shops). So if the seller is reasonably young it could well have been at his Granny's for aa while. Maybe she bought it from someone who told her it was Lalique and she just believed him.
Sad really, this poor seller is going to find out that if he gets the opening bid of 99p for his vase he'll have got 98p more than I reckon it's worth.

Re: an eBayer's wishful thinking....
Dunno if these are still being made today, or if they were just made in the absolute crateload way back when (the latter I suspect), but they were (are?) produced by Dalian Light Industry, China, from c.1970 onwards.
Edit: Oops - didn't read the bit about it being mentioned on the GMB - all the info I mentioned above is listed there already. :sm4:

Hey Ed, in the leather jacket description at the bottom they say:-
'Non payment will result in negative feedback' - how are they gonna do that then?

Well it's not as if you didn't already know is it Nic!?
You could be right - because I see these vile things everywhere - usually either blue, like the eBay listing, or in a horrid orangey red. They must have absolutely churned the beggars out.

It resembles absolutely NOTHING that Lalique would make! Unless of course he had a breakdown, went mental and had a total and utter taste bypass.
Here are a few pieces of some typical early Rene Lalique vases for you to enjoy Carolyn - and to help get the vision of that awful Chinese thing out of your mind!
