Chance Glass

Post by Pip on Mon May 11, 2009 5:21 pm

For more information on Chance Glass see David Encill's website at www.chanceglass.net

Let's start the thread off with a 1962 Chance Glass 'Candystripe' 7 inche hankie vase. Nic - I seem to remember you had one of these in a different colour but yours was a very special opal flashed one - is that right? ...

Mine was screenprinted onto opal-flashed glass, rather than the white being screenprinted on to clear glass with the rest of the design and leaving a clear border around the rim - as with standard items. It was probably an early production piece using up opal glass blanks left in storage. Additionally, it was oversized at 8" tall.

I'll have to access my sister's collection of these vases at some point - she's a near-complete array of colours, sizes and patterns, including some of the very early ones of block colours printed onto solid opal glass.

Why do I hear the faint strains of Petula Clark or Lulu in the background

Is that Austin Powers I see on the tv?

What believe to be a test piece of a handerchief glass bowl. Confirmed by P Encill of Chance Glass reference book as very rare.
Bronze on clear glass with a flower motif front and back.
My pride and joy.

Bought on Ebay a couple of years ago.
