Jane Hamlyn tankard - An early one? Doesn't have the usual decoration on the handle and salt glaze of her current stuff.

Jane Hamlyn (Doncaster

Post by BrandX on August 19th 2013, 3:27 pm

Picked up this cheese dish recently. The "JH" mark seemed like a simple positive id for Jane Hamlyn, but given dtm's post on Joanna Harrison was not 100% on attributing it to her. You will see that there is a second mark which looked rather like a four petal flower, but I note that she used a stamp depicting a windmill on some of her earlier pieces, and you could interpret this second mark as a representation of windmill sails in motion. It is also very similar to the impressed decoration marks on the "early lidded pot" posted by dtm earlier in this thread. On this basis I take it to be one of hers. Does anyone have any info on the second mark (couldn't find anything) and what year do you think this would have been made?

Following Potty's prompt I emailed Jane Hamlyn regarding the cheese dish and have already received her response. She confirmed it was made by her and dated from 1982; she was very candid to state that it looked like a second! However, she could not recall how the "four petal" mark came about.

Came across this by chance. Pretty sure it's by Jane Hamlyn because it's almost identical to mine, which is marked -
