It's been a while since I caught up but was pleased to see there will be a web site for Ken's art.
I look forward to it's launch. †There's been some great stuff on here mind Clap

joining the quest...

Post by debastian on September 29th 2013, 5:57 am

Hello,

I want to join in.
Short introduction on me: I am from Cologne, Germany and I am not too much into art but....

I seen one of Ken Law's †pictures in the small vacation house of my girlfriends parents. I always liked the the picture a lot. It is the english street scene. The picture in the small living room in this old nice house in the end of the world of Germany just fits perfectly in the universe:-)
On the first view it seems complex on the next views it becomes rather elegant simple. I like it that my brain tells me that these are several pictures put next to each other but actually they all fit together beautiful well.
Yesterday, it just happened that I was sitting next to the picture and having my notebook with me and I googled kenlaw.
This blog seems the only source of its art.
So I am very happy to have seen others pictures by him in this post (I like the Florence picture a lot.).

Since my desire to get a print as well (orginals will work too) was born now I checked out the mentioned places "Athena" (if this one is right: www vivarti co uk ) and "Liberty of London" (I did not find it) on the internet. But I did not find any way to get a piece.

Does anyone know where to get a picture? Internetaddresses or real addresses are welcome.

@johnlaw1000
Your post about exposing an website for the art was in April 2013. No more information since then.
I am into computer programming as profession. If I can help out to build a nice small website let me know. No commercial interest to me; I would not want too create a complex internet presentation but more thought of a wordpress.com or tumblr.com page. I also do counsel the photography page of www jacktheflipper de.
I just would be happy to spread the art and have a place where the art can be shared with any one interested instead of packing the backpack and joining our quest.
If you have any possibilities and your familiy is willing to create a contact to Ben Law, please let me know.

Well, joining the quest makes the art more precious to me :-)

Best greetings,
Dirk

Hi Dirk
It was such a delight to see your post today, the early stage of the website set up by my son Ben is now operational, there are only 4 paintings to view at the moment, but it is possible to click on each painting to zoom in, giving a sense of the texture and complexity of the originals.

Thank you so much for your offer to help with our website, do please give any feedback on the website either as a post or to ben@kenlawspaintings.co.uk
you can also contact me directly on johnlaw1000@gmail.com
Many thanks
John

A previous poster wrote that Ken Law prints could occasionally be found on ebay; and sure enough an impromptu search just now reveals one for sale, I'm not sure I'd pay £85 for it, but someone probably will. I actually spotted a block-mounted one last year: I seem to recall it went for quite a considerable sum.

In April I fulfilled a thirty year dream of actually visiting the location of the Hampstead Heath print, and even had my photo taken standing next to the postbox. We then crossed the road at the same place as the figure wearing the red coat (now a zebra-crossing), and celebrated the occasion with a drink in the building at the right of the picture, the William IV pub.

Purchased a Ken Law picture last week. The auction had it described thus:
"Ken Law - Bern, Switzerland, etched gesso,
signed lower left, 61 x 73 cm £100.00 - £200.00"

I see that the family website shows their collection contains a 'Berne' painting. Mine is very similar but has more trees (I think they are trees, must be trees). I love what Ken has done, 'Winter Sun' is a great work of art IMO.

It amazes me that Ken's work isn't appreciated more. I suppose the art world see him as an amateur...but what an amateur....more than gifted I reckon.

I suppose that's the secret of art collecting. Buy what you like and you cannot go wrong. This is my first purchase and I'm so pleased.

I will attempt to take some photographs, so that people can compare to the 'Berne' in the law collection.

I suppose Ken either went to Bern(e) a lot with the LSO or he might have done a series of paintings (quickly or over several years).

I also like Ken's 'strong' signature. He makes it part of the work, rather than an after thought. Clever.

Thought I would show the back. Well engineered. I don't know if Ken did that. It all seems very well thought out.

I bought this as an early birthday present to myself... I'm a huge fan of Ken Law and have a few of his prints. This painting is entitled "Oldham Landscape" a town not far from here.

people say his main influence was Paul Klee but I see a lot of Lowry in his work.....Ken was far better though imo
