Hi Ann, there is a good section on schaeffenacker's work in deutsche keramik by micael thomas ( german text ) he only has the number 562 listed as wandkeramik, "Zwei Gesichter", two faces , 46cmx 30cm , your colouring may very well be different as I believe the glazes were applied by hand , but giving it a little clean with mild sopy water might bring up the colour , schaeffenacker is 89 years old and his daughter runs a site of his work , his vases are sought after but his plaques even more so , hard to value as always I paid £180 I think , look on ebay for big plaques up to £500 +, Ed

Excellent - thank you very much! I shall have a good explore. The little girl with what certainly looks like rollers is my little sister - she always was a bit non-conformist but I presume the rollers came out before Father Christmas made a visit!

Thank you very much for your help. Most Excellent

Which year was my Schäffenacker wall plates created?

Post by Fennia on Sat Jan 01, 2011 10:59 pm

Two ceramic wall plates was hanging in my grandparents house for as long as I can remember.
I received them some years ago, and since I live in an apartment with not much wall space (and gypsum walls) they have been stored in the loft.

However, I have thought about trying to find out who has created them, and with some spare time during christmas holiday I googled and found this forum.

I have enjoyed looking at your Schäffenacker art work, and now I am curious of when my two pieces was made.

Posting picture of plate and stamp here, and one in next reply:

I believe these were made in the early 1960's , some even around late 50's .

How about an ID on this small elephant form. Scandinavian?

Post by postmodernnut on Thu Mar 31, 2011 5:47 pm

We thought we knew who did this, but the base confuses us. Anyone want to take a shot at it. It is 7 cm. tall.
Thank you
Jack

awwww beat me to it Ed - this is one of the very few West German pieces I actually recognise without having to look it up!

I really like these elephants too - nice find PMN.

I think they came in three sizes 9cm , 12 cm and 17cm , also in different colours . I think they would look great in a set .
