Bitossi (Italy)
Italian Bitossi pieces - starting off with some 'Rimini Blu' vases, bowls and pots - all from the 1950s/60s/70s era. This range was designed by Aldo Londi in the 1950s with the colour combination of blue and turquoise glazes said to have been inspired by the mediterranean sea. Various base marks (some shown) - the current modern production has the stamped 'Bitossi Flavia Montelupe' mark (no modern pieces shown here).

Sorry Maarten but I've got my doubts about this too - can we see a base shot please?

Sure, here it is. Would be a disappointment if it is something else, although I still think it is kinda pretty.

Re: Bitossi (Italy)
Does anyone have any idea when the FLAVIA label or mark was introduced? I have searched high and low on the official and unofficial sites but found nothing to tell me when the name change came about. Any clues?

As far as I know it's the mark they use on their current and reproduction output but I'm not certain exactly when it was introduced.

Yes Pip, that's also what i know. I thought the FLAVIA name was rather recent but the other day I came across two RIMINI BLUE vases with the FLAVIA label and impressed mark. The owners claimed they came into possession of the vases in the late 1970s...It is interesting that Flavia website on www.flavia.it gives no clues about this...I will keep searching ;-)

Bitossi Marks
I read, with great interest, the topic entitled Bitossi (italy). The examples were wonderful and the topic generated a number of intriguing questions. I am not a dedicated Bitossi collector but all pottery marked Italy fascinates me and over the years I have owned several examples of Bitossi-like ceramics. I have always been rather perturbed by the number of pieces that have wrongfully, but probably honestly, attributed to Bitossi but I have never written about the subject. This forum gave me the impetus to finally attempt to offer some explanation of the subject. A good portion of the article is speculation on my part and still requires more detailed research. I hope, however, that it will offer some foundation for an understanding of the Bitossi mark.
Because of its length and the subject matter itself I decided it would be better to post the article in my own Italian Pottery Marks forum. Please feel free to drop by and offer your comments, suggestions and rebuttals. You will find the subject in the Identification Help Section. Unfortunately the forum itself is rather bare at the moment. After years of having the forum hosted by Xsorbit the company pulled the plug without notice, shut the lights, closed their doors and went home.
