It’s an LP mark, so not Hamada. Not finding it in the Marks book; might not be British although it looks 1970s type of clay and glaze so more likely to be a potter missed out of the 3 editions.

Thanks NaomiM, I am not convinced it's an LP tho. I thought the same when I bought it last week in Devon but on close inspection the 'P' is left open at the top and it doesn't look right that way up. Mystery jug, LP mark Img_2096

Hamada had great control over his glaze palette and used local materials with freedom and spontaneity to create wide-ranging effects. I dont see the spontaneity of the Hamada hand and hi's kind of signature brushwork on this piece.

Could the disputed "p" be a greek "mu" symbol, as in micro?

I think you’re right.
Might be French.

bought from an auction lot in cheshire and it was from a large collection of a considerable collector the lot itself had plenty of tea bowls from other english potters including william plumptree and derek davis - so i expected it might be better than average, and probably english looking at all the other items in the lot... if that helps any... :)
