Here are a few 1950s blue and white hand painted Rye Pottery items by David Sharp. As well as having the printed Rye Pottery backstamp they are also impressed to the base with the capital letter 'D' (David Sharp's monogram) infilled with a white glaze, which means that these particular pieces were thrown in 1956 by David himself but decorated the following year after he'd left to set up Cinque Ports Pottery with George Cray.

A very impressively glazed David Sharp bull - the glaze has a beautiful sparkly irridescence to it. Inscribed to the base by hand.

Another piece of 1950s Rye - very pretty this piece I think.

David Sharp blue floral duck - quite a big one at 10.5 ins 260 mm long. The Rye backstamp - is that Rye Pottery, or DS's Rye Art Pottery? I am trying to work out the date for these floral patterned animals.

Another 1950s Rye striped elliptical bowl.

Another variation of the bull - possibly a bison? - signed by David Sharp. This one is in a black satin glaze with the section at the back in a coarser, very dark charcoal. The difference between the two colour/glazes is very subtle.

I visited the pottery in Oct 2002, in the hope of picking up some nice pieces.
But it seemed that they were in the process of changing design style
The vast majority of what they had was this blue and white flower design.
The only item I came away with, was this bull in the older style - I'd have bought more if they had any. But they didn't have any other animals or bulls in this style.
I don't know when they started this new style, but I guess it must have been around that time, 2000 - 2002 ??

Rye tankard.
I read somewhere that the stars and dots pattern was introduced for the Festival Of Britain exhibition, 1951, but I can't corroborate that.
