I imagine the decorators were allowed to be "artistic" fairly often when there weren't specific orders to get out?

Hallo all.
Can anybody please let me know whether they recognise the stamp on the base of this bowl/vase? I initially thought it might be Denby but I cannot find anything similar by Denby.
Thank you for your help.

Looks very like Denby but unmarked and has a screw top which I’ve not come across before.
Looks thrown rather than moulded

Yes, sure it is. I'm sure I've seem them before in other colours too.
No idea exactly what it's for though. Bath salts is a possibility,

I thought maybe for mustard or maybe something similar that is liable to ferment and blow off a normal lid?

They did make unmarked containers for many companies, for a variety of subtances.

An unusual 8 in vase, probably a trial, maybe even by Glyn.

Presumably 1950s or 1960s. Interesting mask under the spout and depiction of a typical Derbyshire resident holding onto his flagon of grog as if his life depends on it.

Anyone (DD?) know if this has a pattern name or known designer?

Yes, called "festive" late 40s/early 50s, designed by Albert and Glyn, for export.

A coffee filter, this one in "British fireproof green", 1920s/30s.
Other early tableware patterns eg. Cottage blue, also used this design.

Denby Pottery (Derbyshire) - Page 11 Empty lidless pot - Denby Majolica tobacco jar

Post by imajica Mon Jul 01, 2019 3:55 am

This poor pot has the most horrific crack going most of the way around it, I feel like one day I will lift the top half off entirely when I move it, however, I rescued it from certain death.  Presumably there was a lid once?  I can't find an example online so any suggestions would be grateful! Only 12cm high

This is a Denby Majolica tobacco jar missing it's lid and clamp.
Made for retailers they were rarely marked.

Hello to all. I've a few pieces of Denby that I can't identify so any information would be greatly appreciated.

On the left is a piece of Medici but I have no idea what the other range is, and I note it has a later stamp.

The other is "Blue cone", the first tablware range made by Denby in the 1930s.

The lid on this teapot seems the same glaze as Marguerita, but it has spots rather than the flower?

I haven't seen one of these teapots, and there is no picture in the book, however
the plates and cups did have rows of grey dots as well as the flower, and as it has
the full backstamp I would say it's probably right.
Maybe not enough space on the little 3/4 pt teapot.

This small (4") footed mug and saucer have, according to my sister, a strong Denby vibe. Very dark blue, slight flecking and with a brown tinge. The printed mark was very difficult to photograph but has a look of a Denby mark possibly. Have done a search but not found anything
Grateful for any ideas. TIA
