Moorcroft (England)

Post by Rob_C on June 8th 2008, 5:52 am

Any ideas when it was made?

The cross mark under the "Made in England" is under the glaze. I think it's Moorcroft, but can't quite make it out. :con1:

Measures only 8cm wide x 3cm high

Hello
I believe that the MOORCROFT MADE IN ENGLAND backstamp has been in use since c1986. Your bowl features the IRIS pattern and should be relatively recent. You can find more information about MOORCROFT marks at

Thanks for the link. I suspected later in the company product line considering were I got it. The page says the MOORCROFT MADE IN ENGLAND backstamp has been in use since c1949. It's hard to actually see the marks since they're focusing on the labels and not the marks. It did change in c1986 and the one shown has a flag and date stamp as well as the WM monogram.

I have no idea what this pattern is called or who designed it but it's not often I see modern Moorcroft that I like

"Modern Art" is produced by incompetents, sold by charlatans and bought by ignoramuses?

It is enlightening to juxtapose "Fine Art" to "Modern Art"

Large Moorcroft vase

Post by paulwoodpots on March 31st 2012, 12:47 pm

Another recent find, I've had a lot of Moorcroft over the years but never one like this. Not seen a paper lable on the base before either. Ideas on a date?

Yes , only thing against it as far as collectors go would be the lack of a more elaborate design , but still a great find Most Excellent

1930's William Moorcroft Natural Pottery Vase

Impressed Moorcraft, signature and potter to HM the Queen

Moorcroft got the royal warrant in 1928 so it helps with dating.
