Good afternoon,

I am the curator for a small nonprofit military museum dedicated to telling the story of the Army camp that used to be here during WWII. Prior to the Army being here, the war department took a lot of land and made the farmers leave.

We have been digging deeper into the story of these families and in the process of investigating a former home site, I found quite a lot of pottery fragments. The one here I found is of the mark on one piece. Clearly it is a crown and i believe said "warranted" above it.

I've tried going through photos and drawings of similar markings and was curious if anyone can identifying what it is and a possible age. We would like to include this in our museum display but want to label it properly.

Thank you for your time,

Mike

Could be a sherd from a condiment jar or bottle, from a firm which were suppliers to the Crown?

Could also say Guaranteed - so it could even be American as the Crown doesn't look like most of the English crown shapes.

Looks to be the makers stamp from the base of a plate or charger. It has that blue and white printed design popular with companies like Masons Ironstone. With so little of it to compare it is very difficult to give an attribute but if I turned over a meat serving dish from the mid 19th century I would not be surprised to see a similar mark.

It does not look to be from the 20th century so I would be surprised if it is related to the army camp. Probably part of a a broken Sunday best serving dish from a local family. I know little about what was produced in the states but the Staffordshire potteries in the UK sent boat loads of blue and white around the world.

Miller's Pottery & Porcelain Marks Pocket Fact File attributes this mark to Chesapeake Pottery/D.F. Haynes and Son, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. 1880-1924.

I can find no reference to the mark online. The mark has 'Warranted' with dots underneath the crown, no initials or anything.

Awesome. Thanks a lot. I've been scanning the internet in hopes of finding a photo or drawing of the whole mark but have only found something different.

Thank you very much! Based on 1940 aerial photos, I knew there was previously a homestead in one location so I surveyed the area this past weekend. They were previously doing some land clearing to expand the field for planting and in the process, stirred up the dirt in the location of the old house. Besides lots of pottery, a lot of bricks were brought up too.
