Ambleside Pottery

Found this Ambleside jam pot today. Lovely turned oak lid.

After spotting a similar one on ebay, I'm wondering if someone has made the lid after breaking the original pottery one of that shape.

Just had a message from an Ambleside collector to say that the lid is original.

Feeling a bit inadequate after that gorgeous piece of Oldmagpie's . Anyhow, here's my first ever piece of Amblesde got for £2.99 in an Ilkley charity shop today. 6cm (height)

Llangollen?

I have three pieces of Llangollen and that's pretty much the limit of my knowledge but the clay is different to yours, the glaze is different and all three are clearly marked Llangollen

Here is some nice Ambleside Mugs by George Cook. These are more sought after designs than the geometric designs and command good prices.

Hoping someone might know who made this lampbase. It's large and heavy, so likely to be stoneware. The surface is heavily textured with a blue/grey glaze. There is also a white glaze filled square. The brown may be the body clay or rubbed on oxide? The base has a signature and a monogram. Unsure how this has been applied, paint or ink?
Dimensions are approximately 20 inch tall, with a diameter of 15 1/2 inch.
Any info will be most appreciated.

Looks like it says Ambleside, but not a style I've seen before by Ambleside Pottery.

Has a ROOKE look about , but can't figure out the signature , maybe someone working at around the same time as him   

Not George Cook's mark.
Gordon Fox trained at George Cook's Ambleside Pottery from 1959 to 1966 before setting up his own pottery. But I don't know what his mark is.

The Blue and grey is right for Ambleside.

I hear Mark Hill is keen on Ambleside, hoover it up while you still can!

It doesn't look like the normal mark, so thought it best to put here and see if it is the same Ambleside pottery as in the Ambleside thread.

Yes it's the same just a different mark .

Thanks Ed, only seen the hand etched ones but I guess this was made by being squashed into a mould.

I've found George Cook in the book (cooking the book) Oh dear

But not much info' there.

I always understood the slipware was more the 50s,
and the sgraffito more the 60s. (closed 1966).

A couple of early slipware dishes, with the "mesh" imprinted back. Not uncommon, but all
unique in their own way.
