Double walled Japanese tea set

Post by Hollyamber on February 17th 2017, 12:47 am

Hi there,
I have this beautiful double walled Japanese tea set, obviously a modern piece but I'm hoping someone will be able to please decifer the mark on the base. Many thanks!

Just out of curiosity, do your first two photos appear upright in Australia?

Haha, not sure if that's a 'downunder' joke or a serious question??
When you view the site in classic version the photos are the right way up..

Now they're the right way up but it doesn't help me to identify what the mark might be trying to say.

I'm looking at this on my PC and my image appears the right way up and the original is upside down, as Essenjay suggested.

I've gone onto my iPad and it is exactly the same on there until I change to "classic view" and then the original is the correct way up and mine is upside down.

Shrugs Computers!!!!!!!!

Changing the subject back to the tea set, it appears to have been made for the Western market, as there are 6 cups, so I suspect the marks on the bottom are just for show. They don't appear to be kanji characters just stylised marks.
