Hi,
I purchased this moggy on the weekend because I liked it's shape. I have now noticed there is a feint  impressed base mark that looks a bit like the number 18 and wondered if anyone can give me some idea of it's origin.Photo of Moggy and photo of mark.  Thanks.Stylised pottery cat - Parkinson? It has a look of Parkinsons about it.

I thought that, but I don't think it's by them.

No I don't either, I've never seen any of theirs with sponged decoration. It was the form of the face that made me think that way.

Cor! I wish it was. I did pick up a Parkinson Owl in a boot sale a few years back but the mark was different, a bit like a bird as I recall although that mark was also a bit indistinct. I listed it here and was delighted when I was informed of it's maker.

Hi Davee, Clap
I did keep it for a while as I do like stylised pottery but art glass is my always my first love and then as I remember Xmas was approaching so i decided to sell it on. I listed it on eBay to enhance the bank balance a little. I cant remember how much it fetched exactly but it was around £170 I think and the money really came in handy. Many thanks again. The amazing thing was I met the guy who I purchased the owl off yesterday who was again boot sale selling and actually bought this cat from the next car boot seller along from him.

Hi there,
I may have found the origin of my cat. I was looking at it earlier today and thought I would try and search the internet in the hope of finding some new information. I googled studio pottery cat and one link that appeared was the The Studio Pottery website. There were 2 cats shown there that were created by Stanislas Reychan and they seemed similar to mine (to me). The makers mark was quite clear unlike mine which is worn quite smooth but the shape of the two top circles on the mark of my cat seemed to be very similar. I wonder if someone else might take a look at this webpage and give me their opinion. I would be much obliged. Thanks, Bryn.

Hi again,
I would add that I found the Studio Pottery listed Reychan cat 11 and mark to be similar.

Thanks,
Bryn

I don't think it's a Reychan cat.

I'm sure I've come across this style of animal before, although not a cat. I have a Pinterest board of ceramic & glass cats called Just Cats, and I'll have a look through and see if I can find anything similar when the server's back online.

I'm as sure as I can be that it's not by Stanislas Reychan.

He works in hand built red earthenware and your cat looks to be in molded Porcelain.

That's a pity, but I can I understand the molded porcelain suggestion. I was almost convinced as my cat is also 5" long and 3.5" tall and if you look closely at an angle the rest of the Reychan base mark seems to be there. Ah well! have to move on.
Thanks both anyway.

Had a look but can't find a similar one. I've pinned it to the board (hope you don't mind) and hopefully someone will identify it.

Noticed it was sold recently (I was an underbidder). Did the buyer know what it was?

Hi,
Not sure, I'm afraid I forgot to ask. I know that most of the early bidders came from North America but the winner was from the UK. I really just think they liked the unusual design that first attracted it to me. I could see that the winning bidder, from their feedback, was buying quite a few studio animal figures although this cat was probably their most expensive purchase.

I have seen these cats at antiques fairs but never looked to see who made them
