Hello everyone

i have had this Bowl for a While Now and have Had no luck tracking down the Artist, it is finely Handpainted in the Arts and Crafts manor similar to De Morgan or John Pearson, it Appears to be dated 1911, i did Buy this in Manchester ,so maybe a Royal Lancastrian connection?

Any ideas would be very appreciated

It looks like a Pilkingtons impressed number.
The "C" in the mark is like Walter Crane, but the rest is wrong.

It's probably easier to say with the bowl in the hand but the painted mark on the base looks to have been added about 100 years after the date suggested.

Thats Probably just my poor photography the mark is under glaze and Period to the piece.

i am starting to think this is a Pilkingtons piece the Walter Crane comment lead me to look into artists marks and it is in keeping with those however i cannot find the exact maker, i have messaged the Pilkingtons Society and asked them to view this Thread.

thank you for your responses
Steven

Some slight resemblances to the painting style of Alfred and Louise Powell. They trained "paintresses" for Wedgwood, and I wonder if this might be by one of the trainees painting on a blank?

It's 99% not a Pilkington design . I have both of the major reference books on this factory with one of those coming from the Pilkington society themselves. Can't say I have seen anything close. Particularly as this looks to have been painted on a Wedgwood blank. I think you need to be looking at one of the smaller set ups, a solo artist producing designs on blanks before the first world war (this looks to be 1911). I come across new and unknown artists from this period almost every month. Pilkington was top of the pack around 1911 and every artists is recoded. I have seen similar styled ceramics by Maw and co and Craven and Dunill to yours but again both used blanks and local artists. I think your going to have to research a but more or get lucky to find out who made it.
