Yunomi 1

Post by alexlenehan on January 22nd 2017, 1:26 am

I was recently lucky enough to be able to acquire a large box of fabulous pottery collected in Japan. There are about 30 pieces in all, some of which I have identified (Okabe Mineo, Yu Fujiwara, Tatsuzō Shimaoka) but the rest are quite a mystery. I don't want to overwhelm the forum but I will post a few at a time to see if people are interested.

Thank you so so much for any help.

This first piece is one of three yunomi in the box, I will post the other two shortly. This one is about 3 inches tall.

Thanks

Alex

Shigaraki style, maybe. I don't know that you'd get more than a general region without asking on a specialist Japanese collectors group like Gotheborg

The stoneware body and the ash glaze is a combination used by some Shigaraki potters, although it could possibly be Iga, but without any visible mark that is about all that can be said with any confidence.
