Any ideas on the manufacturer of this wall tile? Tube-lined majolica dragon and floral motif. Believed to be Victorian. Stamped Hercules G

Looks like a Lewis F Day dragon. Check out Pilkington who he designed for a lot (not exclusively though)

I'm wondering if Hercules is the size rather than the make, since it's larger than your average wall tile. G might stand for the manufacturer, such as Godwin (cf. Pilkington tiles have a P)

English tiles tend to be pretty standard things with only the thickness varying depending on the process used to make them (thicker tend to be 19th century). You have the 6 inch by 6 inch version that got used for everything, 6 by 9 that tended to be for the centre of lintels, washstands or simply to be framed as art. Or the smaller ones that tend to be edge pieces or part of larger floor groups. Other than that I have seen a few 9 by 9 but those have been modern or Spanish.

My advice if you have some time pop over to the Tile Heaven website, they have hundreds of antique of tile pictures to compare. Could get a match or pointers to the maker.
