Trying to Identify this Toby Jug Help Please!

This piece stands 5 1/8 inches tall and is 3 7/8 inches front to back. The opening is 1 3/8 inches square. I believe it is baked clay but not sure. Any help in identifying my Jug would be really really appreciated.

the chipping makes me think it is painted rather than glazed but I am sure there will be more experienced members who can help

Thank you for responding. Yes, it appears to have been painted. There is no glaze inside or out and the material seems to be baked clay. No idea of it's origin, age, or history. I do hope someone recognizes the figure and/or era.

Not sure from looking at the pictures if it is glazed or cold painted. If it is glazed then it was baked on in a kilm that ether could not reach high temperatures or was not set to that level. My guess would be could not. This was typical for someone of the country potteries and more local set ups in the first half of the 20th century. It looks English anyway and the color of the clay would nudge it over to the east side of the country rather than west who typically used the local red clay. Looks to have been made in a mold that was then worked on to remove the join line on the body ,they appear to have left a line on the rope at the bottom though. Age, I am going to guess the 1940's. War time restrictions and post war rationing did result in some unusual items with what ever was available glaze colors rather than through choice. I have seen a shop display with a similar type of paint although not with the flaking issue this one has.

So 1940's, English would be my suggestion.

I thought plaster too, maybe give one of the larger chips a scrape to test it

Thank you for all of your help. I do believe my Toby Jug is chalk ware from 1930's and part of the Marshall Taplow Distillery collection.
