Couln't have been made for Marks and Spencer could it? a long shot.

Looks like Grays banded decoration, after Susie Cooper.

is it athens or atmens ? Im wondering about a Scottish pottery - I have seen a few references to a pottery in Clyde, but I cant pin it down atm - so will keep trying

Hmm it doesn't quite look like the H or the M of "MICHAEL"

Can't think of a scottish connection though. Would it be marked England?

Like your thinking with the M and H and Michael. Just to cross another one off - I have checked through all the place names in the UK starting with AT and there is nothing close, and if it were a place would it be above England?

I would guess Athens is the pattern name,
like those used on many pots of this period
