Vase stamped Derby English Make

got this in an estate sale, need help for info. Date and by who. Just love this one.

Given the "Pidgeon English" wording, I would suggest a far-eastern thing.

I'm wondering if it's a Commonwealth piece; made in India maybe, or the Far East, made during the Great Depression to get past import taxes when importing between the UK, Canada and Australia

Its a low quality molded item with transfer printed images and gold highlighting. It could be from the far east, from the commonwealth or even from England not sure we will ever know.

My guess would be the far east though and made as a cheap copy of an earlier style of design. Pretty sure it's from the 1930's. Sorry to say in the UK something like this has no value other than the enjoyment it gives to it's owner but in Canada it may be different.

could still be valuable kept under the bed for those cold winter nights

Your item could only be made at a certain time. The people who made it had a certain customer in mind and that customer would have had great pride in what they owned. It's easy in this day and age to click on the internet and see amazing ceramics but 80-90 years ago it was very different. I am pleased you love it. I have a home full of things almost no one would buy if I offered them for sale but I still enjoy them. It's what makes us fans of ceramics.

most of the pottery displayed around my house has very low market value but was bought for the joy it brought to me the second I saw it and most of those pieces still do.
I haggled with a dealer for 2 years over a piece that would sell in auction for under a tenner but I will never part with it and the dealer has asked me a dozen times if she can have it back.
Art appreciation in it's pure form is mostly fueled by emotion but money driven people have always tried to steer art buyers in the direction that will bring most profit to themselves
