Small Stoneware Vase. Stamp BS or JBS - John Brooke Steel

Post by stardust* on July 7th 2016, 5:18 pm

My mum bought this for me - Thank you mum (she's getting hooked!).  It's just my thing but I'm having more trouble than I thought finding this stamp.
Does anyone recognise it?

I think it's probably John Brooke Steel, though most of his work is much more elaborate and folkloric than this.

Thanks. I'm just following up hb, I've found another example of his mark and it looks spot on....but I see what you mean about the style.
Here's the mark:

Looks like quite a character:

I've tried to contact through the email on a leaflet "New Images Of The Green Man" but it just bounced back.
Does anyone know any more recent information? he is very local to where I lived and he looks just like my old Art teacher, coincidentally... Mr Steel, but his beard was not so grey then and he was a potter. Just a thought.
