BAYLE Pottery, Kent

Post by RVsaid on Sun May 01, 2016 8:22 pm

Hi

Lovely little piece either a candle holder or stem vase. The only BAYLE I can seem to find is Pierre in France, anyone up to speed with his work?

Thanks

RV

It doesn't look like anything by him that I have been able to find and he appears to mark with a signature and date.

His work, at least for much of his career, seems to be earthenware and burnished. This is stoneware and glazed.

I always thought it was a place. We've had one before; a cushion like vase. Here's another vase

Apparently there's an area called The Bayle in Folkestone, and a couple of examples I've found online with the impressed mark are from sellers in that part of Kent.
