1960 to1961 called Pageant design
Intresting fact Ash trays up to the early 60's were double the purchase tax so they were often called bon bon dishes to avoid it
but this was a proper ash tray
John Clappison was designing tableware from 1955 to 1972 although I havnt found a definate for pageant he did design the sister cascade 235 in this range so I would say he most definatly designed pageant
A pair of posy holders were also made to go with the ash tray
full range 234 pageant ash tray
235 crescent ash tray
238 posy ring
239 posy trough

A couple from the Ulrome / Cleve pottery
Ulrome being part of the hornsea group very early on
When 4 Victoria avenues front room got too small for desmond and colin Rawson they rented part of the old hall and went to live at the vicariage at Ulrome, where the outhouses were quickly turned into a pottery
The pieces from here had either a hornsea mark or a Ulrome sticker and later a cleve stamp All of which either came unstuck or washed off Hence nearly all pieces have no marks
To make matters worse When production was stopped at Ulrome to go to the new factory Micheal Wright left and opened cleve pottery. He bought the moulds and had the knowledge to produce the self same black animal and figures range There is no way of identifying Ulrome from Cleve in this range unless a stamp/sticker has survived they have no identification markings whatsoever
The designer was Marion Campbell and these two are 563 bambino and 5618 small panther

Even worse other factories made black animals with white bottoms and a blow hole very very similar
The two above are catalogued as marion campbell designs not all are

it's a Clappison Muramic dish probably made to order with the I.O.R thing on the back as free handouts at a meeting.
The dishes themselves are very common but nice nontheless

According to Brian Heckford's Hornsea Pottery it is called the floral pattern, mould No 418
made only for one year 1962 and called the Large Jardiniere in three colours charcoal, turquoise and grey all on a white background
and sold for 14s 4d (72p)
