Porcelain teapot

Post by NaomiM on January 26th 2016, 10:55 am

Small teapot, 3.5" dia, with butterflies and ivy decoration. I think it's porcelain, or at least a white stoneware.
Inscribed on the base 1149 + Antemony 30
Appears to be a test piece.

It is porcelain and I suspect a glaze test. Antimony oxide is an opacifier in low fire glazes and porcelain enamels. It would have been responsible for the yellow colour but isn't very stable at high temperatures and so is not used widely.

Next time you are at one of the big ceramic events ask all the potters that use porcelain to spell Antimony and see which ones use E instead of I. Simple Shrugs

It is enlightening to juxtapose "Fine Art" to "Modern Art"
