Black glass piece - Royal Brierley Studio
Hi - I have bought this piece. Looks good quality, and the wear on the base gives me some hope it's not brand-spanking new. Over on one of the Aussie boards, someone has pointed out it is similar to the Loetz Mimosa pattern, but while the shape is similar, it's not the same as the examples shown, and this glass is very very dark... I'd call it black... so I doubt it's what they would classify as blue.
Any thoughts??
Thanks

Re: Royal Brierley Studio
Thanks very much. Royal Brierley didn't enter into consideration (didn't know it existed I'm afraid!), but I do now and very interesting too...
No signature on this piece, no matter how hard I look, but apparently that's not unusual.
Thanks again - learnt heaps today

Re: Royal Brierley Studio
Strangely I was given a small clear cased vase yesterday as a gift and it is marked Royal Brierley Studio so without your help I would again not have known. Cheers

Re: Royal Brierley Studio
Its Royal Brierley Studio Ware, I think I can just make out the etched mark on the base.

Re: Royal Brierley Studio
Yes Michael Harris was brought in to design this range that alluded to Studio Glass but was really mass produced at the factory

Royal Brierley Studio
10 inches high, cranberry base, cut and polished rim.
My first thought was Brierley, or IOW, but no marks at all.

Re: Royal Brierley Studio
Great, thanks Davee, If it was Brierley I thought you might know!
Wonder why it's not marked? I'ts such a nice piece.
Now I've washed it, I see there are a couple of flaws in the glass so
maybe it's a second, and that's why it may not be marked.

Re: Royal Brierley Studio
I think it was a bit hit and miss as to wether they are marked or not. They have an acid etched mark which sometimes can be incredibly hard to spot, you have to hold it in the right light at the right angle.
